Principles of Our Body
Our body heals itself. This is the basic Principle of Our Body.
There is nothing more damaging to our self-esteem than losing control over our own body and not being able to use it as we wish. If we understand the basic principles of our body and use them accordingly, we can at least live as the master of our own body.
Characteristics of Human Body
Human body is ultimate machine, it is fully automatic system. The human body protects, manages, adapts, and sustains life on its own.
<The Function of Bones>
When faced with a situation where bones may break, rather than the bones themselves breaking, the joints will flex and absorb the shock to minimize damage. The bending of rice stalks is the result of an inherent defense mechanism to prevent them from breaking. Pain is a warning system designed to prevent movement and decrease the chances of further damage to the bone. This is an inherent defense mechanism that blocks movement to prevent the bone from deteriorating further. If your muscles ache but your bone is not broken and you haven't experienced external trauma, it may be due to your bone being twisted or flexed.
Bones have a regressive instinct. Even if the joints are slightly misaligned, they will naturally return to their proper position. They are always ready to return to their original position, so even if the misalignment is significant and time has passed, they can be easily corrected.
Bones also have a memory. Women who have experienced miscarriage may feel discomfort when they become pregnant again each year because the pelvis remembers the experience. Once you learn to ride a bike, you never forget because your bones and muscles remember.
Cartilage has a very long lifespan. It is tough and flexible enough to withstand a lifetime of use without wearing down. The diagnosis of cartilage wearing down or degeneration is based on observing a small part of the joint that is receiving uneven force due to misalignment. As long as there is no significant damage or trauma, a distorted skeleton can return to its proper position.
<Dokmaek>
In traditional Korean medicine, "maek" (脈) refers to a place where many nerves come together during exercise. The "Dokmaek" (督脈) is the main maek that controls numerous other maeks, and is sometimes referred to as the "ruler maek".
When the leg muscles are overused, the Dokmaek sends a signal to the calf muscles, causing them to cramp as a warning to stop straining them. When bones are misaligned and causing stress on nerves and muscles, the Dokmaek stiffens and restricts further use to protect the area. If one hip joint is misaligned, the Dokmaek on the affected side will be less active, while the Dokmaek on the opposite side will be more active to maintain balance. In the case of a serious injury, the Dokmaek can block pain signals to allow the body to naturally heal.
There are seven primary Dokmaeks in the body: 1) above the ankle on both legs, 2) behind the knee, one bone up from the back of the knee, 3) on both sides of the pelvis, 4) on both sides of the lower back, 5) half a bone below the seventh cervical vertebra, 6) below both occipitals, and 7) on both sides of the mastoid process. The Dokmaek plays a crucial role in regulating and controlling the body's nerves and muscles according to the situation.
<Valvular action>
The human body has valves that control and regulate the flow and direction between the inside and outside. The larynx and pharynx prevent the mixing of air going to the lungs and food going to the stomach. The diaphragm between the lungs and abdominal cavity allows for deep breathing. The esophageal sphincter prevents food and stomach acid from flowing back up into the esophagus. The pyloric sphincter controls the flow of food from the stomach into the small intestine and prevents it from flowing back up. The ileocecal valve prevents the backflow of intestinal contents from the large intestine to the small intestine.
The mouth to anus has a jaw that prevents backflow, ensuring that the contents flow in one direction. This action is known as valvular action.
<Action of Left and Right in the Human Body>
The human body is divided into left and right, with the right side being responsible for the main functions of nerves and organs, and the left side playing a supporting role. The right nerves play a leading role with the spine as the center. The nerve that goes up from the neck to the head is also connected to the brain on the right side, while the left side is involved in the functions of the eyes, nose, ears, and mouth. The kidney also primarily functions on the right side, while the left side plays a supporting role.
In emergency situations, the inherent defense system operates to protect the leading nerves and organs, resulting in the left side being injured more than the right.
<Directionality of the Human Body>
The bones, joints, muscles, and organs of the human body have a certain directionality, like the spines of fish. The knee only bends backward, while the arm only bends forward. The neck moves left and right, while the wrist and ankle move up and down. Going against the directionality of the body leads to martial arts that can harm people, while following the directionality can lead to healing arts that save lives.
When practicing self-correction, it is important not to go against the directionality of the bones and muscles. However, even if mistakes are made, they will not harm the body as long as the directionality is followed.
Inside to Outside: The human body grows from the inside out. Internal organs are created first, followed by openings that connect to the outside world.
Middle to Top and Bottom: The spine is created first, followed by the head and limbs.
Back to Front: The back of the body is created first around the spine, followed by the front where organs are located.
Back to Center: The joints of the body are designed to bend forward towards the center of the body, making it comfortable to sit and hold arms close to the body.
<Body Balance>
The human body has a perfect symmetry in appearance. While some internal organs are asymmetrical, the weight balance between the front and back, left and right is perfectly equal. Walking and moving on two feet requires a perfect balance of weight distribution, without any imbalances to use the least amount of energy possible.
Someone with a hunched back will develop their lower abdomen to balance out their front and back. If the left hip is twisted, the left side of the pelvis will be higher and the right side lower, causing the left shoulder to droop and the right shoulder to rise up to maintain balance. While the left and right balance of the pelvis may be compromised, the entire body will still maintain accurate left and right balance by self-twisting the spine. Scoliosis is not a problem with the spine itself, but rather the result of the pelvis being tilted, causing the individual to twist their spine to align their center of gravity with gravity itself. The first step to solve scoliosis is to properly align the twisted hip and restore balance to the pelvis.
If for any reason this balance is disrupted, physical and mental abnormalities can occur. Small imbalances can be corrected by the body itself, but if the imbalance exceeds the range that the body's own defense system can manage, diseases can easily occur.
A hunched back and shoulders can negatively affect the heart and digestive system, while a twisted pelvis can afflict the kidneys and bladder. These skeletal abnormalities trigger a chain reaction, weakening muscles, nerves, and internal organs, making the body weak.
The human body is connected as a whole, so if one part is affected, it affects other parts as well. The bones, muscles, nerves, and organs must be in their proper places, with proper balance in all directions, for the body to fully perform its natural functions.
<Everything in the body has a purpose>
There are no weeds. Every blade of grass has its own purpose for existing. Whether it's a virus or a bacteria, every form of life on earth has its own purpose for existing. We shouldn't denigrate a life form as useless just because it's harmful to humans or currently has no use.
Every organ in the body has a purpose for existing. There was a time when surgery to remove the appendix and lymph nodes was popular because they were thought to be unnecessary organs that only caused inflammation. However, there is no such thing as an unnecessary organ. Surgeries are performed to remove the stomach for obesity, disks for back pain, knee cartilage, and abdominal fat, and to remove various parts of the body. The human body is like nature. Once it is damaged, it demands a price.
If someone has a protruding belly, they have created it themselves because the protruding belly is currently necessary. If there is a part of their body that they don't like, they need to approach it with the question, "Why is this part necessary for me now?" If they find the cause and create an environment where that part is no longer necessary, it will disappear from their body on its own. Every part of a person's body, such as overall obesity, excessively large buttocks, belly fat, thick thighs, neck fat, back fat, has a purpose for existing.
All systems inside the body are interconnected and working harmoniously. Exercise for the body is about restoring its innate healing power and the ability it already possesses, without relying on medication or surgery.
The body is a perfect existence as it is. It's just that we haven't used its perfect system well. Stand up straight and stretch your muscles, and your body will heal itself. This is the principle of our body.
